From 14 to 16 May, Pharmanager Ingredients took part in Vitafoods Europe 2024, the benchmark event for professionals in the field of nutritional ingredients, functional foods and food supplements. The show, held in Geneva, attracted over 1,100 exhibitors and thousands of visitors, underlining the growing importance of the nutraceuticals industry.

Discussions on biotics, with the categories of prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics, have opened up new prospects for the future of health formulations. Biotics continue to play a key role in improving intestinal health and managing well-being.

Nutra-sensorialization: the sensory experience at the heart of nutraceutical innovations

Nutra-sensorialisation, which aims to enrich the consumer experience, relies on stimulating the senses to enhance the value of nutraceutical products. The sense of smell is stimulated by retro-olfaction and essential oils in capsules or packaging. Sight is captured by eye-catching designs, innovative textures such as multi-layer gummies, and premium packaging. Touch and hearing are also part of the experience, with optimised grips, distinctive sounds when the product is opened, and QR codes to extend the interaction.

Sustainability and green health: meeting ecological challenges and consumer expectations

Sustainability and green health trends were central to the discussions. These discussions highlighted the importance of the ecological footprint of products and the need for the industry to move towards more sustainable practices, in line with the expectations of consumers who are increasingly aware of these environmental issues.

Cognitive and emotional formulations: meeting the challenges of mental well-being

At the same time, new formulations for cognitive and emotional health were also discussed. With concerns about mental well-being and stress management on the rise, the industry is striving to respond by designing advanced formulations to improve mental health.

Chondro’Sea: WOMAC and Connected Watch

Our premium products and extracts dominated the discussions, with a strong focus on Chondro’Sea, mentioned in the majority of meetings. This ingredient aroused particular interest, not least thanks to our study, which highlights new efficacy results supported by WOMAC data and objective measurements from the connected watch. At the same time, extracts such as turmeric and fenugreek, recognized for their health benefits, were much in demand by visitors.

Premium ingredients: natural, innovative solutions for well-being

Rhodiozen and Nattiase were also approached. Why Rhodiozen? Because of market demand and supply issues. Rhodiozen is an ingredient extracted from Rhodiola Rosea L., an adaptogenic plant listed in Appendix II of CITES. This plant is renowned for its benefits in managing stress and improving mental performance. Nattiase is an innovative flagship product. Composed of nattokinase, it helps maintain a healthy balance in blood fluidity and circulation.

Other premium products, such as Annurtrofil, Cranbe’Clear and Resvine, were also discussed.
