Detailed description

Citrus paradisi is a citrus fruit in the Rutaceae family. It originated in Latin America, but is now produced in many countries from Europe to Southeast Asia. Most of the world’s production comes from the southern United States.

The grapefruit seeds mainly contain oils, tocopherol, sterols, polyphenols and flavonoids, which are thought to be responsible for their high antioxidant activity.

The most abundant flavonoid is naringin, found mainly in the albedo (white part of the fruit rind). It is studied in the context of cardiovascular health.
