ADDEOLIC®: A patented ingredient for perfect intimate well-being

About ADDEOLIC®: an ingredient designed for intimate comfort

ADDEOLIC® is a unique and original patented ingredient designed for intimate comfort. It was developed specifically for use in food supplements for women. It may also have beneficial effects on men’s prostate health.  

Its originality lies in its composition, which combines three ingredients: 

  • Cranbe’Clear®, one of our premium ingredients, made from cranberry extract (Vaccinium macrocarpon Aiton) containing 20% PACs* 
  • Chinese cinnamon essential oil (Cinnamomum cassia Blume)
  • Basil essential oil (Ocimum basilicum)

These three ingredients act in synergy to improve urinary comfort. Indeed, cranberry is widely recognised for its benefits for intimate comfort, which are due in particular to its high concentration of PACs*. Essential oils have also proven to have many beneficial health properties.

Furthermore, ADDEOLIC® has been formulated using a specific essential oil
micro-encapsulation technology. It comes in the form of a homogeneous powder, ideal for food supplements in capsule, tablet and other dry forms.

Role of cranberry in urinary tract health

Cranberry has been used for several decades to promote urinary comfort. Several scientific studies have even shown it to have potential health effects. They have proven, for example, that drinking cranberry juice can prevent bacteria, including E. Coli, from adhering to the walls of the urinary tract1-2-3-4. 

If cranberry is so effective, it is partly because it contains type A proanthocyanidin antioxidants, responsible for preventing these pathogenic bacteria from adhering to the uroepithelial cells. 

Cranberry can also reduce the number of bacterial colonies and limit bacterial mobility5-6-7. Lastly, it helps to modify biofilms8-9. A biofilm is a cluster of commensal bacteria attached to a surface. This structure protects these beneficial bacteria, allowing them to survive in extreme environmental conditions. 

Moreover, a randomised study showed that cranberry may help maintain a healthy prostate and improve the quality of life of men19. 

Cranbe’Clear®, the form of cranberry used in ADDEOLIC®, is one of our leading premium ingredients. It is a dry cranberry extract that naturally contains 20% PACs (as measured using the specific, enhanced BL-DMAC method). ADDEOLIC® provides 200 mg of cranberry, equivalent to 36 mg of PACs/day. This dose of PACs was used by ANSES to demonstrate the ability to prevent bacteria from adhering to urinary mucosa. 

  

Role of cinnamon and basil essential oils in urinary tract health

Cinnamon owes its beneficial effects on urinary comfort to cinnamaldehyde10-11, a substance which strongly contributes to preventing S. aureus and E. coli from adhering to the epithelial cells11-12.
Indeed, one study looked at the action of cinnamaldehyde when added to an E. coli cell culture. The results showed that it could alter the assembly of E. coli bacterial cell processes12.
Cinnamaldehyde has also demonstrated antioxidant properties beneficial for prostate health17.
The cinnamon essential oil chemotype in ADDEOLIC® contains trans-cinnamaldehyde (70%-90%).

Cinnamon oil

Urinary tract infections are a major public health problem. This is because the most common treatments involve antibiotics. Yet if used repeatedly, there is a risk of developing antibiotic resistance4-5. Moreover, they can sometimes cause side effects, for example they can disturb the vaginal microbiota and consequently affect quality of life and sexuality.

In addition, a recent study has identified a toxin produced by E. coli believed to damage the DNA of bladder cells6. These results raise the issue of improving treatment in patients with recurrent urinary tract infections.

It is best to prevent urinary tract infections by other means whenever possible. Particularly since those at risk increasingly prefer natural remedies.

Basil oil

Basil essential oil is valued for its highly beneficial health properties, which are attributed to its high concentration of active aromatic compounds, including linalool13. Studies have shown that linalool is extremely advantageous due to its broad spectrum of biological activities, including antioxidant activity18. 

 

The basil essential oil chemotype in ADDEOLIC® contains linalool (min. 45%) and 1,8-cineole (min. 2%).

Double-blind study on the effectiveness of ADDEOLIC®

We carried out a use study in 60 women to evaluate the tolerance of ADDEOLIC® and its ability to improve the quality of life of women.

A first group of women (N=30) took 2 ADDEOLIC® capsules per day* for 5 days.

The second group (N=30) received a placebo over the same period.

Each woman was asked to complete a specific questionnaire evaluating a number of parameters relating to quality of life and tolerance of ADDEOLIC®.

 

Results

 

Our researchers found a significant improvement in subjective quality of life parameters in the Addeolic® group. Indeed, at the beginning of the study, only 16.67% of the subjects reported that their quality of life was “average to excellent”. By day 5 of taking the product, 60% of the subjects reported that their quality of life had improved. In addition, no major tolerance issues related to the use of ADDEOLIC® were identified in this study. 

 

ADDEOLIC® is well tolerated and leads to an overall improvement in quality of life parameters at a daily dose of 480 mg.
